Francassins – Game 1 (Assassin Mode Debut)#
Summary: Battle of Charleroi is a tightly packed, high-accessibility map that thrives under fast-paced, dynamic formats like Assassin mode. With numerous interconnected territories, short attack paths, and high portal density, players can reposition quickly — but so can their enemies.
This game was part of the Francassins tournament — a Napoleon-themed series using secret Assassin rules, progressive cards, and a 60-second dynamic timer. The map’s compact layout makes stealth kills difficult: targets are rarely more than a couple of moves away, and a single turn can flip the board entirely.
In this match, I made the classic first-timer mistake: I revealed my target too early and lacked the troop strength to finish the elimination. On a map like Charleroi, that’s a death sentence. The close spacing means once your target knows, they can pivot, fortify, or disappear through portals before you get a second chance.
Strategic insights for Assassin play on Charleroi: - 🧭 Wide threat coverage: It’s easy to reach almost any part of the board in two steps, so concealment is difficult. - 🕵️ Stealth is fragile: One misstep and your intentions become obvious — especially with alliances on. - 💣 Positioning > Bonuses: You don’t need control — you need access. Prioritize lines of attack over regions. - 💀 Portal usage is critical: Assassins that path through portals can strike quickly and vanish just as fast.
This map doesn’t reward brute strength — it rewards those who can line up, wait, and execute when the moment is right. I did none of those things, and paid for it.

Francassins – Round 3, Game 2 (World Domination Victory)#
Strategic Showcase:
This match highlights how Battle of Charleroi’s design rewards patient positioning and precise timing, especially in World Domination with progressive cards and stable portals. Early on, spreading out and establishing multiple strong stacks is key — not just for survival, but for vision and flexibility. The stable portals become critical in the late game, serving as both defensive anchors and launchpads for elimination runs.
In this game, I avoided early fights, instead focusing on controlling portal access and letting opponents weaken each other. When the time was right, having a set of cards ready allowed me to chain attacks across the map, leveraging portal positions to outpace my rivals. The final turns were a race — and execution speed was just as important as army count.
Key Takeaways:
- Control at least one portal early; it’s your insurance for the endgame.
- Don’t overcommit to bonuses — flexibility and spread matter more.
- Watch for opponents’ card counts and be ready to strike when they can’t redeem.
- In high-stakes endgames, speed of play can decide the winner.
Think about how you can use Charleroi’s portals and dense connections to your advantage — and don’t hesitate when your window opens.
