Francassins – Round 1, Game 1 (I Attacked Too Soon) Game 1#
Map: Battle of Charleroi • Mode: Assassin • Result: Eliminated mid-game
My very first Assassin-mode tournament match, and I was completely out of my depth. The chaos of secret targets, progressive cards, unstable portals, and alliances made for a wild ride. I spent most of the game trying to figure out who was after whom, and it showed.
“Francassins” throws you into Napoleon-themed maps with secret targets, progressive cards, unstable portals, and alliances turned on. The settings reward timing, misdirection, and patience. And I had none of those things.

What Went Wrong#
From the very start, I was confused about who was targeting whom. I was Black, and my target was Orange. I picked up an early bonus, but I was never sure if it was the right move. The board was a mess: Blue was after Red, Red was coming for me, Orange was gunning for Blue—or so I thought. Every turn, I was second-guessing who was after me and who I should be watching.
Instead of building up and waiting for a strong second trade-in, I started probing Orange before I was ready. That tipped them off. And once your target knows you’re coming, everything gets harder. I tried to clear space and fortify, but my moves were too obvious and too early.
What I should have done:
• Built quietly and avoided attention
• Stayed out of fights and let others clash
• Waited for a big card cash before making a move
• Watched the board for shifting alliances and threats
What I did:
• Gave myself away by attacking Orange too soon
• Failed to eliminate my target
• Left myself exposed and spread out
• Got assassinated by Red, who played it perfectly
To make matters worse, when I finally lined up a run, one of the territories bugged out. I couldn’t finish the kill, and my positioning collapsed. Red — who turned out to be my assassin — cashed in, swept through me, and secured their contract en route to the win.

Key Lessons from This Match#
- 🕵️ Patience is everything. Assassin mode is all about timing and subtlety. If you move too soon, you give away your intentions and lose your shot.
- ❓ Track the chaos. I spent half the game confused about who was after whom. Pay attention to every move and try to deduce the real threats.
- 💣 Second card turn-ins are the power spike. Don’t rush before then unless it’s a free kill.
- 🐛 Bug insurance. My kill run failed because of one bugged territory — always have a backup plan.
- 💀 My assassin played it perfectly. Red waited, watched, and cashed in with brutal efficiency.
Final Thoughts#
Assassin mode is deceptive. It feels like a free-for-all, but the best players treat it like chess. I played it like checkers… and got checked out. Next time, I’ll be more patient, more observant, and a lot less obvious.
