Risk Grand Prix 2025 - Round 2#

Week 2 of the Risk Grand Prix was a full-blown test of patience and adaptability. The main event map, Mont Saint-Michel, threw everything at us: Zombies, Progressive Cards, Fog, Blizzards, and Unstable Portals.

But this week also featured an alternate map option: Battle for the United States, with slightly different settings. I ran both maps, and the difference was huge.

Final Results#

πŸ† Fastest Completion: @Drizz – 2:10.96 πŸ”₯
πŸ”ͺ Fastest Kill: @Bart – 1:14.55

Drizz crushed it on Mont Saint-Michel with a blistering time of just over 2 minutes, while Bart secured the fastest elimination in just over 1:14. Meanwhile, I put in solid (but pitiful) runs on both maps, with the alternate proving far more forgiving.

Mont Saint-Michel Speedrun Breakdown#

Early Game (0:00 – 2:00)#

  • Stalled zombies while trying to collect cards.
  • Fog made visibility a nightmareβ€”blind movement tracking was essential.
  • A few bots nearly died too early, threatening my card economy.

Mid-Game (2:00 – 5:30)#

  • Portals shifted and disrupted my setup.
  • Carefully timed trades helped set up an elimination chain.
  • One bot was dangerously close to dying before I could take them out.

Late Game (5:30 – ~7:30)#

  • Final trades allowed a two-bot takedown.
  • Had to navigate a surprise zombie stack that blocked my kill route.
  • Finished just under 7:30β€”my best run on this map so far.

Alternate Map Settings – Battle for the United States#

  • πŸ—ΊοΈ Map: Battle for the United States

Alternate Map Speedrun Breakdown#

Opening Strategy#

  • Claimed the top-right region, building around a few safe stacks.
  • Focused on keeping bots alive long enough to build a proper kill sequence.
  • Zombies hit hard early, but I was able to thin them out.

The Kill Sequence#

  • Orange bot was wiped by zombies early, but I held it together.
  • At the +40 trade-in, I launched a final push:
  • Eliminated Red.
  • Immediately followed with a kill on White.
  • Grabbed the final cards and closed the game at 4:45.

Result#

  • A clean two-kill final sequence with no major setbacks.
  • The alternate map felt much smoother than Mont Saint-Michel. Less chaos, better timing, and more room to maneuver.

Key Takeaways from Round 2#

βœ… Keep the Bots Alive – Losing a bot too early costs you their card bonus.
βœ… Zombies Are Wildcards – They can help or ruin a run depending on where they show up.
βœ… Alternate Maps Can Save a Round – Battle for the United States was significantly easier to control.
βœ… Speedrunning with Fog is Mental – If you can’t see, you have to predict AI movement patterns.
βœ… Final Trade Timing is Key – One well-timed +40 can end a run perfectly.

Looking Ahead#

With the alternate map saving my run this week, I’m excited for what's next. Mont Saint-Michel nearly broke me, but Battle for the United States was a comeback. While I didn't quality, I am getting better.

πŸš€ Let’s see if I can finally qualify next time.
