Risk World Championships Round 2 - 2025 Season 1 FFA#
Round 2 of the 2025 Risk World Championships was a test of survival with the Airship map. Coming off a strong second-place finish in Round 1 with 16 points, I was aiming to build on that success. However, a bad starting position quickly forced me into damage control. Instead of pushing for victory, I had to play defensively, negotiate, and ensure I wasn’t the first player eliminated.

Game Breakdown#
Opening Position & Early Strategy#
- My starting spread was weak, leaving me in a difficult position from the beginning.
- Bottom-left positioning limited my movement, with Orange to my south and Blue blocking my expansion.
- I had no good expansion options and had to make a quick choice.
- I decided to push left, contesting Black, but it wasted too many troops, making me weaker for the rest of the game.
Mid-Game Struggles & Card Control Issues#
- Blue was forced to expand through my position, which made my situation worse.
- Expanding left cost me too many armies, leaving me vulnerable.
- I lacked safe territories to build up and struggled to gain consistent cards.
- Card Blocked: At one point, I was in danger of not being able to get a card at all—a death sentence in an FFA match.
Negotiation & Survival Tactics#
- With Orange and Blue threatening my position, I had to turn them against each other.
- I attacked Orange strategically to make peace with Blue.
- This successfully baited Blue into attacking Orange, setting off a domino effect that kept me alive longer.
- Yellow and Blue helped weaken Orange, ensuring I wasn’t the first to be eliminated.
End-Game & The Fight for 5th#
- Orange was eliminated before me, securing me 5th place instead of 6th.
- At this point, I was already the weakest player, and my elimination was inevitable.
- A last-ditch attempt to take a bonus didn’t change my fate, but I had done my job.
- Final standing: 5th place, earning 4 points.
Final Thoughts & Lessons Learned#
✅ Positioning is everything – A bad start made my survival an uphill battle.
✅ Negotiation saved me – Turning Blue against Orange kept me in the game longer.
✅ Minimizing damage matters – Securing 5th instead of 6th gave me valuable extra points.
Looking Ahead: Round 3!#
With 20 points over two rounds, I’m still in the competition. Next round, I’ll need a stronger performance to stay in contention for advancing.
