Risk World Championships 2025 S1 – Round 4 (Earth 2209 A.D., 70% Fixed)#

Round 4 of the 2025 Risk World Championships brought us to Earth 2209 A.D., with a 70% Domination win condition. The match featured unstable portals, fixed cards, and no bots, setting the stage for a tense and strategic FFA.

A strong +7 bonus secured early put me in a dominant position, and from there it was a matter of smart diplomacy, stack discipline, and waiting for the right moment to strike.

Game Breakdown#

Opening Position & Early Strategy#

  • The goal was clear from the start: secure a strong bonus as early as possible.
  • My starting position looked rough, but I adapted by pivoting into Southern Europe.
  • With some tactical diplomacy (and a bit of luck on dice rolls), I secured a +7 bonus by Round 2, giving me long-term leverage without needing to overextend.

Mid-Game: Fortify and Survive#

  • After locking in my bonus, I focused on becoming too strong to attack.
  • I avoided taking extra bonuses to remain under the radar while steadily stacking troops.
  • I also made sure not to upset other players, deliberately sparing key territories they needed for card collection or reinforcement.
  • My armies were positioned with intention; either on portals or outer edges ready for a late-game push or eliminations.

Eliminations & Endgame Setup#

  • With everyone stacking and eyeing each other, the table entered a kind of cold war.
  • When one player failed to complete an elimination, I cleaned up the remainder for my first kill.
  • Later, a group effort was forming to eliminate Black. I couldn't finish them off directly but did participate.
  • Black struck back at Pink, weakening them enough that I could sweep in and take my second elimination.
  • That brought me five cards, two kill bonuses, and left the board wide open for a potential run to 70%.
  • Blue took the 70%, and took out Black in the process.

Final Thoughts & Lessons Learned#

  • Secure a high-value bonus early – Anything less than +6 might require a second bonus, which is risky.
  • Positioning beats expansion – Stay unpredictable. Stack near portals or spread across multiple fronts.
  • Learn how to negotiate - It's important to know how to communicate and work as a team. It may seem counter intuitive, but helping other players get their bonuses early, for example, by moving out your own troops, can pay dividends.
  • Don’t become the biggest threat too soon – Let others make the first move.
  • Eliminations are everything – Wait for just the right moment to pick off players and claim bonus points without leaving yourself exposed.

Looking Ahead: Round 5!#

Next up: US Midwest, under Zombie Apocalypse rules with progressive cards, Fog of War, and no alliances.

This will be a massive shift in pace—no portals, no visibility, and zombies in play. I’ll need to balance elimination setups with card timing and avoid getting cornered early. With two strong rounds behind me, I’m aiming to push for another high-scoring result.
